See you from October 18 to 22, 2021 for a series of meetings and discussions on biodiversity data.

Don't miss the annual meeting of biodiversity information standards from October 18 to 22, 2021. The event will be held online and will include a full week of speeches, seminars, roundtables, presentations, one no. -conference, as well as social hours and poster sessions.

Biodiversity data Standardization

Many steakholders use biodiversity data around the world, however collection, management and storage vary from one entity to another. The format of these data collected by a range of methods (citizen science, natural history collections, environmental monitoring programs, naturalistic observations, etc.) are therefore quite heterogeneous. Standardization is therefore essential for simple and consistent use on a large scale by scientists and other entities concerned.

That is why, the Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) community has developed several standards including:

Darwin core standard

The Darwin Core (DwC) standard enables the use, storage and sharing of biodiversity data from a variety of sources. This standard maintained by the Darwin Core maintenance group contains a glossary of terms intended to facilitate the sharing of biodiversity information by providing identifiers, labels and definitions. Darwin Core is mainly based on taxa, their occurrence in nature, specimens, samples and related information.

World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (WGSRPD)

The WGSRPD provides a system of geographic units at "country" and more global scales for use in recording plant distributions. Geographical borders are no longer a barrier because it allows the exchange of data without loss of information, between third parties who have adopted its use. This standard covers the entire world terrestrial space and is divided into 4 different levels:

  • Continental level
  • Regional (or sub-continental) level
  • “Botanical country” level
  • "Basic recording units" level

Audubon Core Multimedia Resources Metadata Schema

Audubon Core (AC) is a set of vocabularies designed to represent the metadata of biodiversity multimedia resources and collections. These vocabularies are intended to represent information that will help determine whether a particular resource or collection will be suitable for a particular application before acquiring the media. Among other things, the vocabularies address concerns such as the management of media and collections, descriptions of their content, their taxonomic, geographic and temporal coverage, and the appropriate means to retrieve, attribute and reproduce them.

Natural Solutions official partner of TDWG

For several years, Natural Solutions has been proud to be a partner of the TDWG and to financially support actions carried out in favor of technology and biodiversity. You will be able to find the posters that we made especially for the 2021 edition during the presentations.

Here is a foretaste of our achievements:

Discover here the list of the many conferences offered by entities from all over the world!

A program rich in discoveries and exchanges for all stakeholders in biodiversity. The opportunity to (re)connect the world of naturalist data.

Even though the conference is virtual, connecting and unifying the TDWG community around sharing standards, processes and tools cannot be free. This year's modest registration fee includes a reduction for partner institutes and remains advantageous as it also helps defray the costs of publishing abstracts
