Many studies have identified that people and the stories they tell are getting more disconnected from nature. As a side effect it’s getting harder to understand the complexity of conservation issues. The result is an inexorable cycle of disconnection and apathy, and a progressive depletion in our awareness of nature. Even though remarkable progress has been made in software technologies - for example apps to help us identify plants and animals - there is scope for more technologies to enable us to develop a sense of deep connection with our environment.

For example - in the case of the Ecobalade app - the Biodiversity & Natural Ecosystems Community collects data through observation programs, and enhances this data through simplification, analysis, and context in order to make it accessible to the general public.
